nature vs habits
I believe both of the following:
- Your nature is something you probably shouldn't try to change but accept instead, or even better, turn into a strength.
- Your habits are something that can and should be changed if they are not beneficial.
Where is the line between your nature and your habits?
To me, that's anything but clear. Not only that, I think it's dangerous to not know where the line is, because it's one between self-acceptance (positive) and having a fixed mindset (negative).
I think it's too easy to say, "That's just who I am."
For example, is being a morning person part of your nature or just a habit?
I was a morning person for a few years, a few years ago.
However, I think it's because my habits were different, because waking up early was tough before that time, and it's tough now. But for those few years, it was not only easy but felt natural. It was also one of the most productive and fulfilling times of my life.
I'm not a morning person anymore.
Should I accept this as a part of me and work around it? Should I view this as a habit, which I could once again change?
I don't have the answers. Even if I did, it might not apply to you.
But I don't think this question is trivial.
